Cat created Cat Christopherson in a ‘now or never moment’ in 2017. “I’d stumbled upon a series of online courses in surface pattern design, and inadvertently discovered that quite simply, I loved everything about the process of designing patterns: from concept through to product production. Starting my own design business seemed an obvious and organic way of pursuing a career in something I really do love.”
Before letting Illustrator work its magic, all Cat’s designs begin as hand rendered motifs, prints or paper cutouts. “This is hands down my favourite part of the design process; drawing, painting, splodging, cutting, sticking, printing… with anything I can get my hands on. It’s like connecting with my inner child. It’s a therapy. Being able to call it ‘work’ is a privilege and a joy.”
Originally from Cardiff (“I’ll always be a Welsh lass at heart”), Cat is now based in the beautiful Chew Valley, Somerset. “It’s a constant source of inspiration. Many of my ideas are prompted by my surroundings and the natural world; a leaf, a stone, a crooked line on the bark of a tree. I’m very lucky to have it all at my fingertips.” Cat lives with her husband, four children, and three clucky hens.
